Program Description – We will be addressing the fundamentals of the new leasing standard (ASC 842), with a focus on the history of lease accounting, the financial reporting implications of the new standard, how the necessary journal entries have changed from the old standard to the new, the practical expedients available to private companies, and we’ll also address the solutions and tools available to make adoption of the new standard easier and more efficient.
Program Learning Objectives – Gain a fundamental understanding of the new leasing standard, including the challenges of implementation, as well as the reliefs available to companies, and learn about the resources available to make adoption of ASC 842 more manageable.

Caleb Christensen, Firm Relationship Manager
Caleb Christensen is a CPA Firm Relationship Manager at Netgain and leads the NetLease for CPA’s team. At Netgain, Caleb works with CPA firms and their clients to help implement NetLease and the rest of Netgain’s solutions for automating accounting.
Caleb has a background in audit and technical accounting research, where he has published technical accounting guides in conjunction with a national firm. Caleb comes most recently from an accounting consulting firm where he worked with many early-stage and late-stage SaaS companies facilitating their adoption of ASC 606 and ASC 842. Caleb has worked with a number of public and private software companies as an extension to the controller function. He has been involved in many IPO preparation engagements, helping companies as they work to be ready for their roadshows and pending public offerings. Caleb had the opportunity to be brought on at a SaaS company where he guided the accounting team in establishing best practices for all accounting functions, led the implementation of new accounting software, and helped the company through an acquisition. Caleb has a background in both recruiting and business development functions as well and is experienced in financial modeling and implementing new systems and processes as a lead project manager to help companies scale.

Kara Shelton, CPA - Principal
Kara Shelton joined CST Group in 2015 and has over twenty years of public accounting experience. She specializes in assurance and management advisory services for non-profit organizations and closely held businesses, including construction, real estate and government contractors. As Principal, Kara ensures the effective execution of her audit and review engagements, providing her clients with high-level technical expertise. She also serves as an outsourced Controller and CFO or other resource for consulting engagements, assisting with audit readiness, financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, design and implementation of internal controls, providing support to key members of management and reporting to board members.
Kara served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce and is a past chair of its Women’s Leadership Council. She is also a past member of the Board of Directors and Community Service Committee Chair for the CREW Maryland Suburban.
Kara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware. She is a licensed CPA in Virginia,Maryland and Delaware.
