Keiter Receives Two Accolades for Internship Program
Firm Named Among the Top 100 National Internship Programs of 2024 and a 2024 Virginia Top Employer for Interns
Glen Allen, VA – Keiter, a Certified Public Accounting firm, announces it was named among the Top 100 national Internship Programs of 2024 and the Small But Mighty Award recipient by WayUp and Yellow, both human resources technology companies. The firm was also named a 2024 Virginia Top Employer for Interns by the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership, or V-TOP for short. V-TOP is a partnership with the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia, the Virginia Chamber Foundation, and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. V-TOP’s goal is to facilitate the internship readiness of our students, institutions, and employers.
“We are thrilled to be recognized for our outstanding internship program,” said Gary Wallace, managing partner of Keiter. “We have built a truly unique internship program that provides students the opportunity to work and network alongside both firm leadership and clients. This immersive approach means that interns are treated like members of the firm rather than just an intern. Firm partners bring interns to client meetings or work alongside a client at their office. They are also provided with one-on-one mentorship opportunities with both Partners and Managers.”
Keiter offers two unique internship opportunities which are designed to immerse students in the public accounting industry. The first internship opportunity takes place in the spring and is heavily focused on those individuals interested in learning more about one Department and getting in-depth knowledge of two of the firm’s larger service lines. Given the timing of this internship tract, students are provided with real world experience and hands-on learning as they meet with clients, work directly with our client service teams, participate in the tax return preparation process, and finalize the filings for our business and high net-worth clients.
Our summer internship tract exposes students to both taxation and audit work. This tract is perfect for those accounting students who are still exploring both practices. Like the spring internship tract, the summer tract gives interns the opportunity to work with clients and learn the technical skills needed to succeed in both areas of practice.
At the end of the internship the goal is for our interns to have grown in their skills and knowledge of the accounting profession. This goal is tracked and measured through feedback and performance meetings, as well as assigned simulation training.
Mandy Nevius, MBA, SPHR, director of Human Resources at Keiter, added, “Our team has spent years enhancing our internship program so that we could provide students with an opportunity to grow professionally, network with peers and mentors in the industry, and have fun. These awards demonstrate how Keiter is leading the way in the public accounting field.”
